Changing our vocabulary won't change our heart, but changing our heart will change our vocabulary. The Pharisees were focused on the external things like the sabbath, eating certain foods and participation in certain events. Jesus' was focused on the inside! He said that good fruit comes from good trees. 

There is no more telling thing about a person's heart than the words that come out of their mouth! We will give an account for every word we speak! Jesus said, "from the overflow of the heart, the mouth speaks (33)." What is on the inside is what will come out.

Jesus quoted Hosea 6:6, "I desire mercy not sacrifice" for the second time in this gospel. (12:7; 9:13). Basically He is saying that if one gets their heart right, right actions will follow. Love mercy today. Legalism brings bondage. Mercy is fruit bearing.
