Paul wanted the Corinthians to be clear on this essential matter...What is the gospel? He laid down the basic tenants and challenged them to examine their own hearts.
He said to embrace the gospel with your mind, but not with your life is to not embrace the gospel. He said that to live for the gospel for this life only would be a joke. He said that gospel living expects us to "stop sinning" so others can clearly see and also believe.
What a challenge.
I love 1 Cor. 15 and often am drawn back to verses 3-8 as the cornerstone and bedrock of a historical faith. Jesus really lived, died, and rose again. It is not mythology. It is real. It is much more than a greeting card or pithy pillow stitching. It should not merely move you to agree, but to move.
