Nothing frustrated the apostle Paul more than someone seeking to justify themselves before God by good works! Faith, not works is the only means to salvation. But the "righteous" WILL LIVE by faith! Faith that has no effect on our daily lives is not faith at all.

Nothing frustrates me more than a "so-called christian" who lives their lives no differently than an unbeliever when it comes to faith. True faith radically changes one's life and orientation. It is to be the orienting center of our existence, not the lip service of  our Sunday. 

Paul discouraged anyone who thought they could "work" their way into favor with God. He also discouraged anyone who thought that their "profession of faith" was sufficient to actually save them. Salvation begins with faith. Faith energizes us and enables us to be obedient to Christ.
