Peter was asking a legitimate question about forgiving someone who had hurt him. Basically he said, when can I actually be justified in NOT forgiving? Jesus' answer, "Whenever you don't want to be forgiven by God." God's forgiveness is not conditioned on our forgiveness, but when we are unforgiving it demonstrates how little we know about how much we have been forgiven.
True Christianity is marked by forgiveness.
I was reading this chapter as well today, and was struck by the first few verses. In our worldly kingdom we are all challenged to "man-up"...It sounds like Jesus would challege us in His Kingdom to "child-up."
